Rappresentazione di Anima e di Corpo (Representation of the Soul and the Body) is a landmark in early Baroque music, composed by Emilio de’ Cavalieri and first performed in Rome in 1600. Often regarded as one of the earliest surviving oratorios or proto-operas, it bridges the Renaissance’s polyphonic richness with the emerging dramatic expressiveness of the Baroque.
