Released in 1971, Jukin’ is the only album by the original lineup of The Manhattan Transfer, featuring founding member Gene Pistilli. Very different from the later jazz-vocal style the group became famous for, the album blends country rock, R&B, folk, and early rock ’n’ roll influences. Standout tracks include “Fair and Tender Ladies” and “One More Time Around.” Although not commercially successful, Jukin’ represents the group’s earliest sound and marks the transition point before the classic 1975 lineup transformed The Manhattan Transfer into a major jazz-vocal ensemble.
