The album follows the massive international success of their previous album, Colour by Numbers (1983). It features the band's signature blend of pop hooks, soulful vocals by Boy George, and touches of reggae, jazz, and ska. The album maintained the vibrant, colorful 1980s pop sound and was again produced by Steve Levine.
